Get to know George Marshall, a Field Survey Technician currently working in our Professional Services division. He shares how he’s involved with Fiber and Data Center services.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER PATH AND WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR CURRENT ROLE?
Having an interest in technology, I saw Network Connex as a great opportunity to learn about the telecom infrastructure and how this entire market operates. On top of this, the company has a lot of work in Fiber as well, which sparked a huge interest in the type of work we do. Being a Field Survey Technician puts my foot in the door and gives me an opportunity to do greater things within the company.
WHAT KINDS OF EDUCATION OR ON THE JOB TRAINING HAVE HELPED YOU BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR CURRENT JOB?
While I do make use of years of experience in the IT field, along with some certifications, the on-the-job training we have here at Network Connex helps me progress in my role and makes me feel comfortable in wanting to move forward.
WHAT CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU THINK ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR ROLE?

You would want to have an open mind. Doing this allows you and your team to connect with one another on solutions to any problem you face. And of course, the willingness to work hard and do your best on the job.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
A typical day at work consists of my team and me meeting in the morning, before we start our day, to discuss the tasks ahead. Then, we go out and perform these tasks, whatever they may be. We work until the tasks are complete or until they reach a satisfactory point if they can’t be completed in one day.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

My experience here has shown me that I can learn a lot, even in my role. While my role is entry-level, I am encouraged to explore all other areas that interest me.
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of work I like to spend time with my family and fiancée. I also read books, play my bass guitar, work on computer programming and coding, as well as play video games.
TELL US A FUN OR SURPRISING FACT ABOUT YOU!
The most surprising thing I have told people about is that I like playing the bass guitar.
