TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER PATH AND WHAT LED YOU TO YOUR CURRENT ROLE?
I took a temporary position in 1996 with a family-owned telecommunications company in Norman, Oklahoma, where I was fortunate to learn dial tone and telephone systems, along with high-count copper and fiber splicing. Drive and necessity led me through each step of my career, from phone technician to project manager.
WHAT KINDS OF EDUCATION OR ON THE JOB TRAINING HAVE HELPED YOU BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR CURRENT JOB?
Outside of countless telecommunications-specific trainings, continuing education courses, real estate school, and auctioneer school, I have no formal higher education. Instead, I’ve spent the last 30 years learning from my peers and the lessons each project has taught me along the way.
WHAT CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU THINK ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR ROLE?
I feel that humility, patience, empathy, leadership, and strong communication are needed to be successful in my role.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
Lately, I spend the majority of my day working on large-scale project bids and RFPs while also fielding calls from ongoing projects and new subcontractors.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I love the freedom our leadership gives us to hold ourselves accountable, as well as the opportunity to watch younger professionals find their way in the industry.
HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I typically stay occupied with work and spending time with my grandkids.

My wife and I raise cattle, and I am an auctioneer. We also own a land clearing and management company.
